Key Achievements of NiGP Program
Through national leadership and support for the NiGP Program and our continued role in the provision of policy advice and promotion of the practice nurse role at the national level, AGPN has achieved significant contribution to the advancement and promotion of nursing in general practice. Some key achievements include:
- Publication of the National Practice Nurse Workforce Survey Report 2009, the only comprehensive national compilation of information and statistics of the General Practice Nurse workforce. The survey results revealed that a further 1000 Practice Nurses have been employed in general practice since 2007, and 60% of general practices now employ a Practice Nurse.
- Publication of the National Practice Nurse Workforce Survey Supplement Report 2009. This is a study into the reasons why GP Practices may not employ a Practice Nurse.
- Development of the Business Case Models for Nursing in General Practice. A comprehensive package of information on the benefits and financial implications of employing a nurse in general practice.
- Production of a range of promotional materials for general practice nursing including posters and information brochures for consumers, practices and nurses
- Publication of the Nursing in General Practice Recruitment and Orientation Resource – a guide for general practices, practice nurses, and divisions of general practice. The resource provides GPs and practice managers with an overview of the possible roles nurses can perform in general practice and addresses the questions most commonly asked regarding recruitment and orientation process. The resource has also been designed to support nurses new to general practice to understand the working environment
- Publication of the Nursing in General Practice Introduction to General Practice Program. This program is available to the network to assist with recruitment strategies.
- Publication of the Nursing in General Practice Orientation Program for Nurses new to General Practice. Face to face workshops schedules February 2010 – July 2010. The online version was launched at the National NiGP Forum 2010.
- Development of the e-learning Medicare 10997 to support the Practice Nurses and Aboriginal Health Workers.
- Extension of Domestic Violence Training programs in cooperation with Lifeline, DoHA, FaHSCIA. An intensive 4 month (March-June) program offers 8 workshops with additional funding for accommodation, travel and practice support payments.
